Three weeks ago I previewed the new Yoga line from J. Crew in the article J. Crew Goes to the Yoginis. Since then I’ve gotten hold of the Yoga Cami for testing and can now, really tell you what I think versus just hypothesizing.
Review:
In all honesty, I don’t think there was one thing I liked about this top. I try to always point out positive aspects of each garment, even discuss it’s negatives in a more lighthearted way, but for the first time, I’m just not sure it’s possible. From the moment I took the top out of it’s packaging, it had a strike. A friend was over at the time, and as I removed the garment from the plastic bag it came in, we both noticed a smell. At first I thought it was just the packaging, and so we opened up a second garment bag with pants inside. No smell. My friend’s initial reaction, make sure you write about that on the blog!
The nylon/spandex fabric felt heavy against my skin rather than something comfortable that would breath easily in high-sweat situations. Even with it’s built-in shelf-bra, the thin-adjustable straps provided no support. The fit of the top I even found to be unflattering. One aspect of the fit, which could actually be viewed as a positive for the top, is that it was long. Really long, which I think added to the strangeness of it’s fit as it either bunches or clings depending on how far down you pull it. Admittedly, the length is nice since it allows for the wearer not to have to worry about the potential for their underwear to be sticking out while bending over or performing interesting moves while on a mat or wall. Look, one positive!
All-in-all, I think as far as yoga/climbing tops go, this one can be skipped. There are plenty of other really great brands out there making a superior top. Unless you’re a J. Crew junkie, I would say just pass this one up.
For those interested in checking out the top for yourself, it comes in eight colors: black, bright rhubarb, brilliant blue, navy, soft fuchsia, soft graphite, sour lemon and white. Click here to order the top online.
